This newsletter comes as we celebrate the 32nd signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This Civil Rights law changed much of how people with disabilities are seen in the world and within every part of society. One in seven of us have diagnosed disabilities and that represents over one billion people worldwide.
It is possible that your current connections to AchieveAbilities are the first time that you have been an active participant in making change for people with disabilities or that you have been an advocate for a much longer time.
Seeking to fulfill AchieveAbilities’s mission “to empower people to achieve their highest potential by fulfilling employment, financial and personal goals. We aspire to enhance the quality of life by focusing on abilities and strengths in ways that are important and meaningful to people and their circles of connection.” is just one part of how we work to continue to grow the mission of the ADA.
But how? As we write this month, I want to encourage you to seek out smaller ways you can share about what the need is for people with disabilities.
Tell your friends about your job (and recruit them to join us if appropriate!)
Look for opportunities to grow awareness and advocacy within our individual circles of influence and within each workplace we have the opportunity to interact with.
Pay attention to local business and compliment progress.
Be open to learning new ways, from anyone.
Continue to represent AchieveAbilities and its purpose and mission in the public sphere. On behalf of AchieveAbilities, thank you for partnering in this important and life-supporting work
